An important disclaimer: I'm looking for friends, not romance per se. I don't consider a romantic relationship to be the goal, but rather think of it as a particular type of deep friendship that emerges between people who have developed a great deal of feeling and trust between them over a long period of time. I think everything about how we approach romantic relationships is more or less completely upside down, and I am not at all interested in "dating." I'm interested in taking all sexual intrigue completely off the table long enough to investigate who we are to one another, and if we share a mutual admiration for and enjoyment of one another. No timeline, no pressure, no particular goal in mind, just an open interest in whatever emerges.

All that said, a bit about me and what is most important to me.

I've been vegan for 20+ years and was vegetarian many years prior to that.

I'm passionate about veganic permaculture and I live on a spectacularly overgrown and almost entirely untamed five acres in rural West Virginia, where I don't have an HOA to complain about my bad behavior.

I work as a coach and counselor, and I am a huge believer in (good!) therapy. If you don't have a very good sense of how your childhood wounds are still influencing your patterns and emotional capacity as an adult, and you don't have a real passion for healing and expanding that capacity, we probably won't be able to develop much of a connection.

I would say I'm "spiritual but not religious," as annoying as that phrase is. I believe we are spiritual beings having a physical experience, and that our prime directive is to grow toward truth and love. I find a great deal of faith in the divine order to things (and the nature of that divine order) by observing the natural world.

I'm over a decade sober, and as part of my recovery I practice (or try to, however awkwardly and uncomfortably and imperfectly) radical honesty.

Some things I value very much in other people, and in our time together:

* Self-responsibility and humility
* A passion for relational repair
* A passion for the truth and courage to meet whatever it reveals

Some things that don't work for me in relationship, whether it is a romantic relationship or not:

* A transactional ethos
* Contempt
* Arrogance, superiority, and entitlement
* Addiction
