I like to play outside. I enjoy open water swimming in rivers, lakes, and the Pacific. I enjoy hiking, kayaking, and just generally finding ways to play outdoors, though this has been a bit limited lately due to injuries. I also enjoy attending live music events and exploring gardens. I take pride in having changed my garden to native and edible plants and have grown to enjoy gardening in a way I never thought I would. I work hard in an often emotionally-intense environment so I enjoy my time away. Mostly Buddhist in a Jewish family. Compassion and kindness are the keys to a good life for me. This is also reflected in my political engagement. Having lived in Europe and studied history, my political views are far to the left of most Americans, though not unusual for a native Oregonian.

bluebuddha, a Vegan in Portland bluebuddha
is a 53 year old, Buddhist male.
Living in Portland, oregon
Vegan diet.

Moving to Portland, OR on June 1st 2022.

I'm a very compassionate loving man who is looking for something deep. I am hyper-creative in a lot of ways and this comes out in my work and at home, I happen to be vegan but you don't have to be, I love animals and would love to help save the planet. I read extensively, love art, love performing arts, love weird art ideas even if it's not the type of art I like, and especially love art that makes people smile. I also like to travel for vacations and International travel but am not too into domestic work travel unless it's a really interesting place. I occasionally do public speaking about Internet security, my work revolves a bit around breaking into computers and also protecting people and peoples information. I'm also super-creative at times and make a lot of fun/silly things from time to time. I also can make people howl with laughter once I get to know them a bit.

Other details: I am monogamous, I'm not against short-term relationships right now but I do strongly prefer long-ones, but being monogamous is just how I'm wired and I don't think it's a bad thing. Note: this doesn't make me anti-poly or anything like that, I'm just wired to pair-bond and go super deep in love with that person. I am very intense, can be very playful and fun at times, rough at others (in a good way) and still have times when I'm very caring and love to connect deeply. I have paradoxical mixtures of both rough and loving things in my personality (think very strong and tough but also tender and caring), I also like to touch a lot, be affectionate, and cuddle but at the same time can also be dominant rough in a very fun way.

I am extremely nice but have a bit of a dark sense of humor too and have been known to pull off some amazing pranks on friends (peaceful and fun/ not harmful or mean other than maybe scary around Halloween). I am also very intelligent even by very intelligent peoples standards ( sapiosexual people would love me apparently ) and I don't mean that in an egotistical way but it is one notable part of me, and being so is not always fun (think: gets to see more suffering in the world than most people and is aware of things that I sometimes wish I wasn't), but this is tempered with lots of wisdom in many areas. The plus side of that is I have a great appreciation for things and I have a great career. I also tend to have life-long friends, some I've known since I was 8-years old. This puts me in the category of having fewer but much deeper relationships (I think this is a good thing) but another paradox appears in that although I am a public speaker who can be very social and lots of fun at parties I actually would rather just hang out with my best friends (family friends) in smaller more intimate settings where we can actually have deep conversations. BTW: My (family friends) have an extremely diverse set of backgrounds, they are all GREAT people many are also really fun or intense people to hang out with but it can seem as if none of them have anything in common with each other at times. I do like meeting new people and am really good at introducing myself to others and talking to anyone but a small dinner party for 4 to 12 is in some ways much more fun for me. I also read a lot of philosophy (all sorts) and occasionally (not as frequent as I'd like) enjoy the deeper aspects of meditation, specifically the state of presence and awareness.

I'm also into a lot of other things but not heavily into these at the moment: meditation, Buddhist philosophy, yoga, tai chi, weight-lifting, reading all sorts of stuff, I like interesting films, I don't really watch tv at all but I'm open to occasionally binge-watching series, I like science fiction (I'm not hardcore into it but do like to see futuristic films occasionally), foreign films, films with unusual cinematography, Japanese anime is cool but I'm not heavily into it, I could get into board-games with friends or card-games or similar social games but don't currently play any, I like to write but don't do as much as I'd like too, I like creating art but am usually spending my free time on other things. I've had a lot of other more esoteric interests and experiences in the past that may be of interest to some people, eye-gazing, tantra, kirtan. I do a tiny amount of yoga almost every day but it's been years since I've done it seriously. I love making large elaborate dinners for holidays or parties and can be a great cook in that regard (think beautiful time-consuming multi-course meals) but I haven't mastered the 20-minute meal by any means although I do make some really tasty simple (ingredient-wise) meals from time to time. Speaking of which I love organic food but not in that I think it's magic but in the sense of I don't like the idea of eating "slow-kill" poison-ridden foods (why is that even a thing anymore). Not a fan of Monsanto in this regard. I also try to cook with almost no oil, no sugar, and almost no salt. It's not a strict avoidance at all, but I find if my default cooking leans towards healthy that's a good long-term trend. That said I still occasionally love grabbing some pizza at sizzle pie or pizza-pi or having an Indian Thali, Thai curries, or going all out on vegan sushi from time to time.

Finally, I do need to mention that I'm still kind of easing into the idea of dating again and am not checking this site frequently, especially during the week or when I'm traveling. So my apologies in advance for any delayed replies. Be a little patient with me but feel free to write a long e-mail or tell me what you are thinking in multiple messages if you feel like it. Communication is very welcome I'm just a bit busy at the moment.

Finally, you should NOT contact me if any of the following apply:
- You watch Fox News
- You work for Fox News
- You don't bathe regularly.
- You throw trash on the highway.
- You throw trash in the ocean.
- You hate cuddling.
- You hate books (exception if you are a digital reader).
- You don't tip.
- You harm animals for pleasure.
- You're that person who lets their dog poop in other
peoples yards and just leaves it there.
- You park in the handicap spots when you are in a rush.
- Have ever had the nickname "The Bitch" or "Drama"
- You know you are a raging alcoholic
- You recently lost your license due to a string of DUI's that
really wasn't your fault. Trust me, we are not a match.
- You voted for Fuckface Von Clownstick
- You ever even for a single second liked the idea of being on the Jerry Springer show.
- You think I look like your ex.
- You think I look like your dad.
- You think I look like your mom.
- Sadly the people who don't read this far can't include themselves but they are easy to spot...

Whether I'm a match or not, thank you for taking the time to read all this. There is a lot more I'd like to say but I think this is enough to help the dating filtering process get started. Do not be afraid to ask me weird or simple questions either. I am super easy to talk to and will respect any question you want to ask or idea you want to discuss even if it has nothing to do with me in a potential dating context. Thanks.

After adopting a former racing greyhound, my eyes were opened to the cruelties that animals raised for food, our entertainment etc. suffer & I choose not to participate in that. Hopefully you feel the same!

To maintain my physical & mental health, I work out at the gym 5 days a week & take an occasional hike. I have season tickets to both the Timbers & the Thorns. My two dogs - a pit mix & a chi/terrier mix - bring me joy as do hanging out with friends, trying new vegan restaurants, seeing a play or live music. I have had the good fortune to take some amazing travel adventures & would love to do more. Also enjoy the simpler things like laughing at something silly or curling up on the couch with a good book.

I'm a loving and strong person, a giving person, a good listener, funny in a serious sort of way.  I'm a retired mental health counselor, a former lawyer, a sometime writer and progressive activist.  I love to walk around the neighborhood and to hike in the woods and mountains or at the ocean.  I enjoy exploring spiritual paths.  My primary spiritual practice is Advaita (similar to Zen).  I especially value laughing and good conversation.

Ronald, a Vegan in Portland Ronald
is a 61 year old, Atheist male.

Single white male, 56, 6 ft., 175 lbs; an in-shape runner.  Ph. D. in Psychology, college instructor and mathemtical tutor.  I enjoy mountain climbing, hiking, working out, a variety of fiction and non-fiction, Thai and Ethiopian food (love injera!), table tennis, chess, mathematical recreation.

Gauging chemistry online is impossible.  We can match up extremely well on paper, but not click romantically in person.  Most of what I say below is with my search for a long-term partner in mind.  But I'm also open to more casual dating, making friends, and having fun!  Partners for hiking, climbing, dinner, movies, a talk by an author at Powell's, and other random common interests would be great too.

The above is especially true given that I just did my first semi-serious search,  and made it for non-smoking women within 50 miles of Portland.  There weren't many, and exactly EIGHT had even logged in to this site this year, and only ONE this MONTH!  So, yikes, I'm afraid no one is reading this, I don't know how the pickings are for women seeking men, but if you are reading this, you might as well message me and maybe meet for coffee!  That said...

A woman I could really make a deep connection with for a long-term relationship would be compassionate first.  Intelligent also.  Non-judgmental, and really believing everyone is OK and inherently worthy, even if at times their actions aren't.  Also someone like me who is an activist in some sense--passionately driven to help others and make the world a better place.  Also, somone who really wants to communicate deeply--share their feelings, fears, hopes, dreams.  As I get older, I find people I meet seem more and more ready to settle into something "comfortable."  Better in some ways than being single, I guess, but that doesn't excite me.

About me:

I consider myself altruistic, compassionate, and tender-minded.  Besides being an ethical vegan, I volunteer time to social causes, contribute financially as I can to worthy causes, and think a lot about how to do the most good with my life.  Alleviating human suffering and animal suffering are both important to me.  I'm a very good listener.

I'm an intellectual type, and I'm curious about many things.  I enjoy mathematical and other types of puzzles and brain teasers, read widely, enjoy philosophical discussions.  I enjoy new experiences, whether it is trying different type of (vegan) food, learning about other cultures, or growing by trying new things that new people in my life introduce me to.  I'm very moved by the beauty of nature, which is the main reason I love hiking and mountain climbing.

I'm fairly driven and ambitious, but struggle with procrastination (and have learned a lot about how to deal with it).  I'm ambitious to make a difference in the world.  It would be great to have a partner who is the same, and to support each other in that.

Middle of the road but probably more introverted than extroverted.  I enjoy excitement:  roller coasters, bouldering, and want to try sky diving.  But can be pretty introverted too.  Enjoy my alone time.

I can be pretty sensitive--something that I think helps me be sensitive to the feelings of others.  Have done a lot of self-work on dealing with feelings sadness and anxiety that plagued me more when I was younger.

My ethical philosophy is utilitarian.  Pollitically, that generally puts me pretty far left of center.  Yet I also believe in understanding those who are different from me, and that includes people have different moral intuitions that lead them to different political positions than my own.  I have friends on the opposite side of the political spectrum.

A woman I could really make a deep connection with for a long-term relationship would be compassionate first.  Intelligent also.  Non-judgmental, and really believing everyone is OK and inherently worthy, even if at times their actions aren't.

New to Portland (late 2015). Vegan since 2013 (went vegetarian in 1988), ardent feminist/queer rights/social justice/animal welfare activist, agnostic, avid reader, self-employed and financially stable, tattooed, and enthusiastic year-around wilderness hiker and backpacker who loves all that the Pacific Northwest has to offer. After many years of vainly trying to make relationships with non-vegs work, I am seeking a vegan or vegetarian partner.

When anyone first meets me, they assume I am shy, quiet, and innocent, which I suppose I am until you get to know me. Then once you know me you will learn I am quite the opposite. My two passions in life are animals and music. Both definitely bring out the best in me.

I need to be with someone who is compassionate, empathetic and affectionate. Animals have always been a huge part of my life. I am an advocate for animals and spend some of my free time volunteering to find homes for some pretty amazing pets. I hope to meet someone who will support me in these efforts. Even better if you want to join me. :-)

I have a pretty sarcastic sense of humor and usually know when to lighten a difficult situation.

I live my life by the Law of Karma and have no regrets. Everything in my life has been a lesson learned and has lead me to where I am today.

It's important to have a passion in life.  Something that makes you get up in the morning.  Something that pushes you to want to do better, to be better.  What is your passion?

I am a warm, loving, compassionate man. I am witty, intelligent, and love to make others smile :)

While I consider myself to be a self-confident man, I understand about the interplay between confidence and vulnerability. I tend to look for the positives in life and believe that things happen for reasons, and ascribe to learn from my experiences. I am a good listener, and feel that my professional medical training allows me to understand others.

I enjoy spontaneity and will sometimes, surprise my partner with the unexpected, believing that when things are always predictable then can sometimes get monotonous. I think life can be exciting if we see it as more of a journey than just a destination.

I've been told that what is most appealing about me is that I am honest, trustworthy, dependable and sincere. Perhaps that is why I enjoyed raising my two daughters so much because it gave me an opportunity to show my warm, loving, playful and affectionate side while providing the emotional support that is necessary to raise a family.  Most of all, I am comfortable in my own skin, know who I am, and not afraid to be me. I think others find that appealing over men who will say or do anything because they think it is what others want them to say or do.

If these aspects are important to you, I am: Cancer sun, Leo moon, and Pisces rising; Enneagram #2 and ENFP

I'm an outgoing, high-energy, former Chicagoan who has been vegetarian for 20 years. I prefer to be out and about versus staying in for the day. I like hiking, frisbee in the park, riding my bike, live music, playing guitar, and spending quiet time taking long walks, reading, and writing. I really want to run more but have yet to achieve the runner's high people say exists. Art and music are a big part of my life.  I've been watching the rides go in for Rose Festival. I've never been. Tilt a whirl, anyone?

Honesty is huge !!! I strive for balance and happiness in everything I do. In the future I would love to travel more, help repair Mother Earth, save the animals, educate people, become more raw, find my best-friend (partner), own land where I can have some animals and grow an organic garden.

I have a passion for life, and all of the facets that symbiotically work together to make it worth engaging. I love to travel, whether that is to a foreign land where I do not know the dialect, a spontaneous trip to Denali, or just a new restaurant or farmers market that opened up down the street. When I am not teaching or playing architect, then I love to get outside with my dog for hikes, muck around in the dirt, sculpt beautiful artifacts, spin fire poi, read, and have random conversations with intelligent friends. I pick fruit most of the Summer and make a great pie crust from scratch; I skate through food markets on the back of carts like a kid; I actually enjoy doing taxes; I have a book addiction and always want to learn; I love to go dancing, and will volunteer to be the designated driver; If we are stuck on a rock face, I do not panic; My life is composed of myriad adventures and facets, and I want to hear and experience those which you love as well; I truly believe that one can have their cake and eat it too!
