I am a vegan, culturally conscious, intelligent, down-to-earth yet business minded, fun-loving, daughter, sister, friend, community advocate, and young entrepreneur/professional. I consider myself a pretty well-rounded person. I love vegan cooking (and used to own a veg*n catering company). I love social activities, salsa dancing, belly dancing, lectures, cultural activities, political discussions, going to lectures, reading, working out and being active. I'm fluent in Spanish and want to soon learn my first African language. Since life is all about balance I love both working and domesticity, both activity and relaxation; both being purposeful and being carefree.

Intro: I moved to DC last fall from Massachusetts. I started working at my dream company, National Geographic, earlier this year. I help produce digital media for kids and moderate an online photo community.

I've been vegan for about 10 years and have always loved animals. I'm also into photography and filmmaking and like to use those skills to help animals.

My personality: I'm smart, thoughtful, creative, and have a great sense of humor. I can be fairly shy and quiet, particularly in group situations, but more outgoing once I get to know people. I put a lot of passion and effort into everything that I do and I have a good heart. I've also been told I have a nice smile. In fact, I smile a lot, but I can't seem to help it!

My interests: I like to ski (downhill and cross country), ice skate, hike, ride (and spend time around) horses, bike, take photographs, make people laugh, and occasionally bake or cook for other people. Now that I'm in DC, I also like to go to museums, attend outdoor movies/films, one-off documentary screenings, and explore the city. It's been awhile since I've had pets, but I like all animals. They seem to like me, too. Oh, and of course, I like to eat good vegan food!

Where I've been: My favorite place I've lived is Montana (lived there for about a year total for school) and I try to go back there whenever I can to visit friends and see the beautiful scenery. I also try to make it out to Seattle once or twice a year to visit my sister and now 3-year-old niece and 4-month-old nephew. I also spent a few months overseas in Namibia a couple years year working on some short films to raise awareness about cheetahs. I'd love to go back and explore more of Southern Africa and other parts of the world.

I am an interesting blend of many things: funny, serious, thoughtful, playful, sensuous, spiritual, intellectual, witty, silly, occasionally sarcastic. I take others more seriously than I do myself. Babies and animals love me.I have presence. When I'm in a room you know that I'm there, but not because I'm the best looking.I play chess, listen to jazz, and love to converse. A phrase that best describes me is "still waters run deep..."

I'm an easy going and usually up for anything, but my favorites are going for a round of pool, a bike ride, a morning run, or to hear a band. I like most any music if its live. i spend free time taking drawing classes, going out with friends, and enjoying being outside on a bikeride or for a game of frisbee. I like trivia nights though I'm terrible at them. I tend to be on quiet side at first but that's easily overcome this with friendly people, good conversation, and a beer.

I'm pretty down to earth, work on a wildlife conservation magazine and get to hang out with biologists in some beautiful areas for a few weeks a year (the perfect amount of time because I love cities, too!) and then go back and write about it. I have cats and dogs, I foster for the local animal shelter and I try to walk on the planet with a light footprint (bike or walk to work, have been vegetarian for 20+ years, carry a canvas bag to the grocery store and use power strips ;-). I LOVE sleeping in tents, hiking, exotic locales, local locales, making people laugh, laughing until I can't breath. Not really a sports fan. (Except I do like the Packers--owned by the people after all!) As much as I like to have fun and be spontaneous, I'm super responsible: own my own little rowhouse in DC. My life is just missing one thing...

I am an attractive, fun, successful, compassionate woman who loves being vegan and meeting other vegans. When I have a day that was tough on the job or less productive than I had hoped, I smile and think- well, I am vegan and that is something good I did today :) I have dated "tolerant" non-vegetarian/non-vegans and have non-v friends, but I look forward to sharing my time and life with someone who is also passionate about having a compassionate and evolved diet.

I've been vegan for about 20 years.  I'm interested in becoming active in veganism, and other like causes.  I recently watched PlantPure Nation on Netflix.  It's an excellent documentary about vegan activists lead by Nelson Campbell.  Nelson's father is T. Colin Campbell, author of The China Study.  Nelson founded PlantPure Nation, looking to spread the whole food plant based lifestyle nationwide.

I found out a few years ago that even Jack O'Lantern pumpkins are good to eat as long as they are not carved.  So last year I organized an event I called 'Pumpkin Rescue'.  After Halloween, I collected about 300 pumpkins from neighbors, and donated them to the Mid Atlantic Gleaning Network (MAGNET).  MAGNET distributed them to food banks, who planned to distribute them to food bank clients with instructions on how to cook them.

When I'm not working I enjoy walking and bike riding.  Bike riding is a passion.  I try to set a goal every year to inspire my training.  I love trees, especially in winter when I can admire the intricate beauty of their branches.  I enjoy music, mostly rock, jazz, and classical.  I also enjoy watching movies and exceptional TV shows, like Downton Abbey.

My greatest desire in life is to be emotionally and physically close with a woman.  I love to hold hands, hug, and give and get foot and back massages.

The photos are from my son's graduation in May, 2015.  The photo with my son also includes my Mom.  The other photo is my daughter and I.

I'm a vegan but not super strict (no dairy, but an occasional macaroon might pass my lips). Though a committed Christian, I find inspiration in other paths--particularly meditation. I try to live green and eat local: walk or use public transportation--use Zipcar only when absolutely necessary (like when Amtrak doesn't go there!), carried a reusable bag way before DC started charging for plastic, love the adventure of consignment shopping and thrifting, and try to forgo foods out of season. I love most kinds of music, art, travel, books, and intellectual and spiritual stimulation. I value honesty, openness, and kindness. And I love to laugh.

I moved to DC a few months ago after living and working overseas for the past two years. I am looking for a vegetarian/vegan man with whom to explore the DC area.

I am originally from California and that is where my parents and siblings currently live.

Those close to me would tell you that I am kind, passionate, smart, and caring. I believe in making a difference in this world and am an idealist at heart. I am drawn to folks who are non-conventional and challenge the staus quo. I have been a vegetarian since birth and became vegan over sixteen years ago because of moral and ethical reasons. I am very lucky to be in a career that lets me tackle issues I am passionate about. Injustice of any kind bothers me - and drives me to work to make a positive difference.

The bar/club scenes have never interested me, but I love to hang out and chat with friends at cafes/restaurants/home, watch movies, go hiking or stay at home and read a good book...Travel is something I cannot live without! I have been lucky enough to travel to several different countries and plan to continue doing so the rest of my life!

I have never been married. I am looking to meet someone who is passionate (in all aspects of life), caring, hardworking, motivated, intelligent, and adventurous... a man who challenges himself and the world around him... someone who is curious... and who wants to make this world a better place... I am seeking a friend for life....I am proud of my Indian heritage and would want a partner who also respects India, its culture, etc.

At the Buddhist temple where I meditate, one of the organizers who couldn't remember my name listed me as "Dog Lady" on the mailing list. That's a fairly good summary right there. But I suppose I need to write more than that.

Let's see....

I have 2 big-ish dogs whom I adore. Since getting them, I only go on trips where I can drive because I have to bring them along. In other words, I camp, hike, or visit friends and relatives when I travel these days. I used to have quite a bit of wanderlust and have visited a fair share of foreign countries, but the restlessness for foreign travel seems to have left me - at least temporarily - and now I generally crave an uncrowded trail in a forest where I can surreptitiously let my dogs run around off leash.

I used to be an engineer for the US Navy but became unhappy, used my GI Bill money to take art and design classes at UDC, and now I'm trying to decide what to do next with my life. I'm thinking of teaching high school physics and am currently reviewing all the physics I learned over the years so I can pass a physics test to get my provisional teaching license. I'm not 100% sure I'm going to teach but there are aspects of the job that sound appealing to me. 1) I really like physics. 2) I really like kids - yes, even teenagers. 3) Teaching public school seems more worthy to me at this point than becoming a defense contractor. 4) I wouldn't have to travel for work. 5) A nice yearly summer vacation.

I like sci-fi and fantasy. The original Star Trek is one of my go-to shows when I want something on to keep me company while I'm doing arts and crafts. Oh, yeah. I do periodically like to try to make things. I usually just end up making a mess but every once in a while I make something cool. I'm currently making my friend a plushy cat tube/house thing for her cats. It's going to look a little crazy but I think the cats will like it. (By the way, my dogs are cat chasers. Big Boy could probably be trained not to do it but Girlie was semi-feral when I got her and I wouldn't trust her around small animals.)

I have a nice group of girlfriends here in DC, a few platonic male friends are in the mix but the girls often hang out alone. I also have a nice group of gay male friends, although that group is shrinking as people move away from DC. One of my first DC friends just moved to Portland, and I'm thinking of a long road trip through the Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming, etc. next summer to visit him and my uncle who lives out in Sun River, Oregon with his 4th (!!) wife. My girls and I like to go dancing sometimes, drink and eat a bit of cannabis. One of my friends is really into Burning Man so our get-togethers have occasionally veered into Burner territory, although not that much because some of my friends were very uptight teenagers and as adults they consider getting drunk and doing karaoke a really wild time.

I own an old rowhouse, which I bought when I was still working as an engineer. I currently rent out the bedrooms to hip 20- and 30- somethings who all came to DC to make a difference. I mean that a bit sardonically, but honestly I do like my housemates. They are fun and interesting people with big good dreams of improving the world. The basement is my little studio apartment. Although I do go upstairs, I like that my basement is a self-contained world when I need it to be.

I grew up going to a Christian church but my house was full of Buddhas and Buddhist iconography and devoid of Christian iconography. It's curious in retrospect, but it felt normal at the time. My dad is from a Buddhist country but doesn't practice so I didn't really learn much about Buddhism until the last couple of years. The more I read about it and listen to skilled Buddhist teachers, the more it feels like a coalescing of things I already believed that were hidden behind the distractions and materialism of samsaric life. As a philosophy it makes so much sense. Sometimes I feel like an atheist. Sometimes I believe in God. But whichever way I feel is irrelevant to Buddhism. I can be a Buddhist whether or not there are Gods overhead.
