I'm a work in progress. Probably too sensitive to the world around me; I guess i expect to much from it. I believe in animal rights, but that doesn't mean that I want to own them. I'm a bibliophile, and I like to haunt the aisles of libraries and book stores. I fancy myself an artist. Liberation from the ego is a pursuit. I like poetry, chess, juggling, thoughtful movies, and Jazz.  I don't see why consumerism is so important, why people seem to care more about stuff, than other people or the millions of animals being tortured so that some people can get rich or enjoy a certain taste or texture. What do we value, why not the diversity of life and nature instead of glorifying violence and raping the planet. We are destroying the very things that make life possible, and all for what, what will it matter how much gold and silver you have if there is no clean water, or air... But one thing I don't like about myself is that for all my talk I don't do very much, its just hard to know where to begin, and because i need to work to live a life not under a bridge, and there are so many other things that take up one's time, that I don't find or make the time to be an activist. And I do think that if we could come together for a cause we could change things, there are many more good people in the world who do care and know that things are not right but get caught up the system, because it's hard to not get caught up in paying bills and sustaining a certain way of life, but is that way of life really worth pursuing after all.

Seeking:

someone who doesn't feel they have to control things, and can laugh at themselves as well as at others. A genuine person, who is ok with silence, or with playng a clown. One who doesn't think they can find happiness or satisfaction by buying stuff. Someone who sees that life can be a magical adventure, but for that to be, you have to give up the rat race and stop believing all the lies that are sold to us.

My loved ones would say that I'm passionate, honest, and independent, and probably a little impatient. I love experiencing new things as I am an extremely curious person. I enjoy the smallest things in life the most.  I can find humor in any situation. I find it easy to laugh at myself and not take everything so seriously. I secretly think it would be really cool to be a ghost hunter. I have begun to practice yoga and now I'm wondering why I didn't start sooner. I am an expert at losing my keys. I'm a huge nerd.  I want to restore an old Victorian house when I'm older.  I got sent to the principal in first grade for pulling out a chair from underneath a boy trying to sit down. I learned my lesson and never got in trouble again. Well, I never got caught again...mwahaha!

I haven't consumed meat of any kind (except by accident) for about 15 years, and I have been vegan on-and-off during that time—for the sake of nutrition, the environment, and animal treatment. I have been vegetarian/vegan for the past 20 years of my life. I love laughing and believe that laughter is an important part of life. Hello. I'm Al Montano. I'm 20 years old and I'm a junior at the University of Houston I spend most of my time at school I like to watch sports. Sports is my number one passion and I'd be lying to you if I said it wasn't. Besides sports I'm a huge Seinfeld fan, a huge mafia film fan. The only difference I see between us and animals is that we like money. My biggest obsticle/ challenge is actually making a difference, people today are mean, hateful, and just don't get it. I accept everyone as they are and never try to change who they are, but I just want to help spread the messege to everyone and hope that I can change someone's life. It appears that religion is either exoteric or esoteric. The former is precisely what the founders of the world's true religions did not intend (just my opinion); while the latter is the essence of the religion, and perhaps what these founders intended. What is called religion in popular parlance is the former, while the latter is called spirituality.

Practice of exoteric religion is the cause of quarrels and divisiveness, but practice of the esoteric core of religion, which primarily is an inner practice, is profoundly peace inducing. Anyone who has experienced the causeless happiness of deep meditation will vouch for this. I am very interested in the deep aura of peace that accompanies sages and saints. I have been fortunate enough to experience some of this; and this has so overwhelmingly silenced the inner dialogue that I am compelled to seek this inner space more and more.

I used to be the person who often quoted Ramana Maharshi and said "Your own self realization is the greatest service you can do to this world". This statement still stands, but I have used in the past to condone my apathy, which is antithetical to its spirit. Fortunately however, I have reached a stage in my practice where as I focus more on the inside, I am compelled in equal measure to act (in accordance with inner dictates) on the outside. This means, for instance, allowing one's morality to flow from a first person identification with all sentient and insentient beings, instead of being moral because of certain rules that one imbibed in school. For example, I have always been a big animal lover, and often used to wonder about those lean dogs that chase vehicles when you travel in India from village to village. I still think about them, and wonder if they will experience the affection and love I have experienced. Such thought is motive for action only if you can bring yourself to truly put yourself in the shoes of the other (dog in this case). Nowadays though, I am trying to do something about it. 

I also think a lot about green cover, and how it can be brought back. I also think a lot about baby elephants. Whyever not?

I weigh about 200 lbs. and am 5'7" tall. I'm about a size 18-20 and most of my weight is from the waist down. I am pear-shaped with a big behind. I'll just get that part out of the way right now. I used to weigh over 300 lbs. (twice) and have kept my weight down to near 200 for about 8 years now. It mays all the difference in my health. I was going for a slender size 10, but it's just not looking like that is going to happen, so I'm hoping some vegetarian or near-vegetarian kind of guys like bigger women, because I'm not sure I'll ever be any smaller! I have added a photo taken of me in February 2012 that is full length so you can get an idea of my size.

I entertain thoughts of conspiracy theories, UFOs and try to eat healthy non-processed foods. I also like to eat a lot of food organic -- and even uncooked -- and I enjoy creating dishes like vegan raw cheesecake and bacon. The kitchen is my 2nd favorite playroom. (smile)

I love to read. My favorites are books on health, recipes, how people live around the world, biographies, anything of interest really, including science fiction.

I'm into love and compassion for all. Racism turns me off, as does violence and hot tempers.

I spent a lot of time in the past 20 years trying to be a raw foodist. Sometimes I achieved that, but mostly I did not. Now I am finding a comfortable place sort of in between. I like my cruciferous veggies cooked as well as my sweet potatoes, millet and quinoa (with onions). But I also love to play in the ktichen fixing "raw gourmet" dishes from time to time. I have quite a collection of raw recipe books!

Sometimes I eat eggs (if they are from a good local source), and I won't say I never eat meat, but I will say that it is pretty rare and I would like to get to where I never do, because I love animals.

Love Music: blues, rock, some jazz, country, classical and reggae as well as folk and some other forms of music.
