I have spent most of my adult life living in the tropics. I love being barefoot, swimming in warm water, and leaving my doors and windows open to the breeze. I have lived on a variety of US islands in both the Pacific and Caribbean. At the time, I was working as a visiting nurse. My name in Hawaiian is Koana.

In 2005, I decided to retire from nursing, and had an interesting interlude traveling and living aboard a sailboat for several years.
I still love the ocean, but I began to crave being around big trees and forests, so I currently make the Pacific Northwest  my home base. It is a very beautiful part of the country.. So far, I love it here 8-9 months of the year. I'm not used to the cold rain so I like to escape the Winter. Also, it almost never rains here from June to October, which is a plus.

My ideal guy is motivated and passionate about his own interests and career, but he is also easygoing and able to take things in stride -- and he can be a complete goofball when the time is right. It’s pretty daunting to try and describe myself in a couple of paragraphs, but here is my attempt…

I find that I am at my best when I am outdoors, whether it be digging around in my garden or exploring and challenging myself on the side of a mountain.  I never cease to be inspired when taking in the sights and sounds around me tromping about in the forest or sailing along the coast, when I have the opportunity.

After hitting thirty in March, I decided I needed to find a place to plant some roots and give myself the opportunity to flourish.  I have been traveling pretty consistently for a number of years now.  I recently have gone back to school for my second bachelors degree in sustainable horticultural production and will hopefully finish up in 1 ½ years armed with the knowledge and experience I will need to get my own small-scale, market farm up and running.  Until then, I am a sponge for all things involving organic production.  I believe that a diet rich in whole organic foods is the key to health and brings with it the vitality so many of us are in search of. 

I consider myself to be a very laid-back and open-minded individual.  I love a healthy debate where I am exposed to new ways of approach, but tend to stray away from those that only like to pick fights over petty, egocentric ideas.  I am an avid reader and doubt I will ever lose my love of learning.  I am passionate about a great number of things in this beautiful world, but I would rather explore those with someone under the stars or over a thunderstorm than confine them to the page.

I'm an artist and have been a vegetarian since I was 19. It was a moral decision and I’ve stuck with it. I'm a sociable introvert who enjoys odd or obscure art and music. I think of myself as an overall hopeful, optimistic person.  That said, I am a very feeling person and am highly sensitive to the suffering of others.  This led me to pursue an M.D. and I'm now in practice after being in school for most of my life.  Also, I keep a long-standing vegetarian/ vegan lifestyle because I care deeply about the well-being of animals.  I've always enjoyed writing and am currently pursuing medical communications/ journalism as another facet or transition of my career.  What I'd really like to do at some point is take some time off and travel. You have to be a vegetarian, at least. That's an absolute must.

All of my ex's have been carnivores, and after years of watching them eat nasty food filled with blood (such as rare steaks) and then trying to come in for a kiss? Nope- not anymore! I've had enough of nasty meat eaters. I can still be your friend if you're a carnivore, but not lover.

Another thing, No Drugs. Yes, this includes weed!

And if you didn't drink, that would be great too. :) 

It would also be nice if you were around my age. Somewhere between 18-20ish? Just not anyone past 30.

Nature amazes me, so I tend to hike a lot these days. When I'm not hiking, I go for long walks with my dog in the city. Sometimes we play ball in the park. I also live with three older cats who are a bit more sedentary. I'm a very compassionate person, and I love helping others, especially those that need the most help.

authentic and genuine. i am honest, affectionate (not so much in public as far as passionate kissing goes), compassionate, loyal, funny and playful. i smile a lot. i'm creative and a homebody for the most part. i like to cozy and i like my surroundings familiar and to feel comfortable. but i also can be very adaptable and spontaneous.  and can be extroverted and quite friendly socially. i am told i make people feel welcome and comfortable. i'm not an easy one to peg. 

i have been a country mouse and i have been a country mouse...comfortable in both. i love taking long walks in nature but also love taking long walks in a city or taking a subway, train or bus ride. i like to think of myself as a great traveller. 

i'm a vegan mama to 2 vegan children. my daughter is 9 and son is 4. they are my everything. and we have 2 dogs who are also vegan. but just one thing is missing... could he be you?

To be honest, I can't really bring myself to date someone that isn't vegetarian. I guess that makes me a snob. Or it means I know what I want. Or maybe something in between.

But seriously folks, I'm a 20+ year vegetarian who is looking for someone to eat awesome vegetarian food with and/or date. Oddly, even though I've lived in Portland for over 5 years, I don't know a lot of vegetarians and sitting around my friends while they stuff their faces with beef jerky is getting a bit old.

I like to kayak, play tennis, sing karaoke, brew beer, bake, cook, geocache, play table top games, lay in the sun, build pillow forts, catch shows and act as a warm pile of laundry for my cats to pass out on. Yes, I have two of them, so please like cats. I love the water, be it hot tub, ocean or river. I am pretty outgoing (see the thing about karaoke above), but I would also like to date someone who can enjoy the silence - with Depeche Mode or not. Oh, and I'm a total nerd, so fair warning.

I am tidy, sane, pay my bills on time, have a good job with a not-for-profit, a wee bit sarcastic, easy going and would consider myself just as comfortable in dress shoes as I am in flip flops.  Hey, I think versatility is important! I have my beliefs and opinions, but I am not a zealot for any cause (except not eating animals). High strung and people unwilling to consider the other side of things kind of scare me.

Seeking: Intelligent, strong, feminine woman. Loving, caring, compassionate; will make a wonderful mom. Natural, down-to-earth, outdoorsy, bit of a hippy, has a zest for life. Loves animals. She wants children, and is young enough her biological clock won’t fizzle before we finish courting. So chronologically, she’ll be twenty-some years my junior. My biological age is about 10 years less than chronological, so not that big a gap. She’ll gain a loving husband with life experience, and a wonderful father for her children.
