what can I say? - I am a nice girl looking to meet a nice guy and see what happens from there. i'd rather meet or email someone and say more about myself in person than write a blurb or sales pitch on a dating site. but here's a few basics.

i am 33, Australian, like cooking, gardening, art (being creative), reading, watching sci fi, travelling, yoga, bike riding etc. i have been vegetarian for at least 18 years and a vegan for a few years now.

i have spent the last few years doing some part time study and travelling, but i would like to find someone to share important things with rather than just doing my own thing all the time.

More specifically, I have begun to adapt my vegan thought to include a strong non-possessive 'feminist' component - one that challenges mainstream and/or heterosexist/patriarchal models of relationships. In short, I have a principled critique of marriage/monogamy as I deeply value relationships/romances built upon an ethics of abiding non-possessive care and mutual trust. Such care means above all a recognition of both the "otherness" of the person(s) one respects independence within a relationship. That is, one cares for others not to expect something exclusive in return but for the joy of caring for its own sake...More on this should you be interested...

Seeking:

I am particularly interested in someone who is above all at once secure in herself and curious about the world(s) she inhabits. Such a person would want to be challenged and would not be averse to addressing hard questions or thinking critically about much that is taken for granted. I am a former opera singer who now sings from time to time as a hobby. My last concert was last year in Carnegie Hall. I'm no music snob as I do like to keep things real on multiple levels. I hate BS with a passion! I love to have fun and laugh. I am currently attending school to become a clinical therapist, my second passion after singing. Man, I sound so serious so far....but really, I'm a fun girl who loves to go out dancing and have a glass of red wine. I love sensuality and beauty and delight in grandeur as well as in life’s simple things, such as a child smiling passing me by on the street.

To be completely honest I want to be surprised. I am not going to list a bunch of qualities that I need to be interested in someone, maybe the thing I will like most about you is something I've never even thought would be important to me.

I'm mostly vegan, politically progressive, not in great health but not dead and not boring. I like to read and - sometimes - write, and go for short to moderate walks and bicycle rides. Born and bred in the Deep South, I'm an exceedingly happy transplant to the metro NYC area going on 2 years now.

I was a lacto-vegetarian lifer and just recently shed the firmament of "dairy-dom" in my metamorphosis to full-fledged veganism for social justice and ethical reasons. I've been a proud card-carrying vegan for nearly 1 year now, although I do have my rare dairy lapses on the very occasional blue moon.

I relinquished the trappings of a career in basic science research about 5 years ago to follow my latent idealism and inner intuition, and am now grateful to be starting medical residency this summer in Brooklyn.  All hyperbole and cliches aside, I do love extending myself empathatically for patients as well as the intrigue of and thought process that goes into medical diagnoses.

Yes I am a male vegetarian, and no I am not gay or even bi. :-p I just care about myself and the world around me. I have been a New Yorker my whole life and phased into the vegetarian lifestyle about 5 years ago(my sister was veg for about 15 years). I like going out about once a week usually to Huntington Village or Farmingdale. Other than that I greatly enjoy my Netflix subscription. I spend more time reading almost every day than I spend watching TV.  Every day I try to do something involving me getting off my butt, whether it is biking, running, tennis or weights. In the summer months I try to hit the beach a few times. I went to school in Albany and currently work in Finance on the Island.

I am an artist and animal lover.  I never liked meat, and once I found out that it was, in fact, dead animals, it was all over for me.  I became vegan about fifteen years ago after watching a downed cow video at an animal rights meeting.  I try not to judge others for eating meat, but it's hard.

I am at a point in my life where I really want peace, harmony, and to just enjoy.  I don't have any use for fighting or conflict in my personal life.  I absolutely hate dating and dating sites, but I don't want to become a bitter old lady.  I'm not opposed to a relationship if it happens, but I don't need to be in a relationship either.  That being said, it would be really nice to be able to hang out with people who don't ask stupid questions like, "What do you eat?!"
