I am a senior citizen that lives in beautiful Portland,Oregon. The wonderful beaches are one hour away, and the mountains for winter sports are approximately 2 hours away.

I volunteer daily 8 am to 4 pm in the health care field.

I ride a commuter bike to and fro. I also enjoy long walks around my neighborhood.

I knit, crochet, latch hook, and I also enjoy indoor and outdoor gardening.

I feed the wild birds at work and home, hummingbirds year around....even the ducks bring their brood to feed every morn.

Yoga has been an important part of my life for a long time. I taught it for years in Seattle. The yoga then turned to mantras, meditations and pujas. I don't think I ever would have chanted my first mantra without doing my first asana. I have a love of the outdoors which seems to always bring me back to the Pacific Northwest. I have gone raw less than 30 days so far and am sold on this life. I like a lot of the benefits and do not really see that there are any negatives. I am a complete novice as far as food prep goes but I've picked up several recipe books and have been dabbling with mixed results. I also have purchased a vita mix which helps a great deal. I have a modest group of friends who are all meat eaters soI'm the first to break away. I am an obsessive music collector to a fault possibly though I am quickly on my way to being a record owner rather than a collector, meaning I like to think I'm close to owning everything I want except for the occasional new release here and there. I am a merchant mariner who work for a marine towing company out of Seattle who ships me from anywhere from 30 to 60 days at a time. I get the same time off when I am through. I have a masters degree in Social Work. I enjoy living downtown and being close to everything, hanging out by the waterfront, forest park, riding my bicycle around town and anywhere else. I can actually walk to the library without being overwhelmed by traffic, (except during rush hour). I run with the local Nike club at times and ride with a local bike club and enjoy yoga, and meditation to help me stay grounded and centered I am also hiking and jogging more these days. My exercise and recreation tend to follow the seasons, so I don't ride my racing bike much in winter go camping, hiking more in summer, etc. Started weight lifting this winter. Even play table tennis. I don't watch much TV any more except for movies and an occasional comedy. I like to listen to Pandora internet radio. I love being outside, and really feel my best when I am wading in a river or hiking through the forest. As much as I love being on the move, settling in and relaxing at home can be just as rewarding. Indoor time generally involves planning for my next trip, practicing my guitar (less than I would like), and researching whatever is on my mind. Most of my activities depend on the weather conditions and other environmental factors so I never really know exactly when things will unfold. Winters see a lot of steelheading and snowboarding, and is one of my favorite seasons. Spring is another favorite season with the arrival of spring chinook salmon and more hiking weather. Summer steelheading gets started in area rivers and is a great time to enjoy the shedding of winter. Summer is time to catch up with friends, fish a little less, and attend some music festivals.

I like every kind of music imaginable, and really like seeing it performed live. I grew up seeing improvisational music like Phish and The Grateful Dead, and still enjoy seeing a show from time to time. I am always keeping my ears open for a new sound that catches my interest. I have to say it get's harder and harder as far as new music goes. While I do listen to music often I don't feel the need to always be playing something, and will travel in silence rather than listen to commercials and old classic rock songs that I have heard a million times. If silence isn't cutting it, I'll listen to the news on NPR or any other unbiased or liberal news source. If your a unwaivering Republican don't bother, we will not get along. Sorry:) My home page is the Guardian UK news sight, and keeping up on current events is important to me, but can be a little depressing at times so sometimes I have to take it in smaller doses.

I am interested in gardening, permaculture, and sustainable living, and would love to own land and try to live off of it as much as possible. That being said, I also enjoy the comforts of the city, mainly enjoying Portlands amazing dining. As far as food restrictions go, I don't have any, except to consume the highest grade ingredients possible in my meals. Every dish does not have to be lavish, or super unique, but I strive to consume the freshest and safest ingredients possible and really enjoy the satisfaction of a well prepared meal. I'm seeking a like minded woman to share time with. I love to cook and experiment with veggie and vegan recipes. My latest discovery are Kale chips. I didn't realize there are 100 ways to make the darn things. I'm not a strict vegetarian. According to Buddhist scripture one must apply the principle of Ahimsa to living your life. Roughly translated that means doing the least harm. I will eat dairy products (cheese mostly) and honey. I avoid anything that involves the death of an animal so eggs, fish, chicken, pork and beef are out. I also practice yoga and meditate. My one weakness is alcohol. I do love a good glass (or three) of wine or a nice craft beer. I usually pair this with food so it's not drinking to just get a buzz.

I pride myself on being honest, forthright, sincere, kind and open minded. I don’t own a TV, which I consider mind control and addiction. I don’t care much for sports but I do a lot of outdoor activities, including hiking, biking, snow sports, kayaking, and I've surfed twice. I’m unabashedly leftist, having no faith in our rightwing, corporate elite controlled economic and political systems. I’m glad to vote outside the two-party myopia, believing choosing from the evil of two lesser means you still end up with evil! I think computer dating is weird, but if you only want to date vegetarians, it actually makes good sense! I enjoy reading; I do it daily, mostly fiction, but not exclusively. I do yoga as often as I can manage. I work entirely too much, and I'm not sure why. Oh, yeah...walks on the beach, blah blah.

I have a couple of acquaintances that are vegetarians, but I would very much like to have someone closer to me that shares the same values and beliefs. I have no vegan friends. I have some very good friends that are omnivores, and it can be frustrating. I believe in their eyes they find me eccentric, and they absolutely don't understand that I'd rather not date a meat eater.
