Domesticated home-body who loves cooking, eating, and gardening meets culture-seeking, music-loving, liberal vegan. That's the only way I know to describe myself. I do love a good adventure every now and then, but mostly I enjoy quiet evenings at home or out with small groups of friends. Loud bars, clubs, and sports games are really not my dish. I prefer time spent either alone or with people I care about. I love walking/hiking (especially if I can take my dog), bicycling, and yoga (though I've fallen out of practice as of late). Exploring urban areas can be fun too, depending on the city. It usually takes me a while to warm up to new people. However, once I feel comfortable, my sense of humor ranges from incredibly corny to bitingly sarcastic. I am more of a listener than a talker, though. I tend to only speak if the subject really interests me, or if I'm just feeling silly.

I have been a computer programmer for 33 years and plan to retire in 5 or six years. About eight years ago I became a dedicated vegan with a strong interest in health food, vegan cooking, and the latest in nutrition science such as found at nutritionfacts.org. I am a Democrat with libertarian leanings and I enjoy following politics and current events. I like the Daily Show, Colbert, Chris Matthews, Rachel Maddow and other MSNBC shows. I also follow world business news and collect chess books. I never used to care for exercise but since becoming vegan I actually enjoy doing a moderate workout with weights five days a week and a brisk half hour walk every day. I am always happy to try vegan selections at restaurants especially Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese Indian or Mexican. I am not religious but am interested in spirituality, meditation and Buddhism.

As the world races past me, I'm not carried by it's vacuum and it has been difficult to escape this type of lifestyle because it means that I had to make changes and people would not always agree. But I have found what is important to me in the process, so I feel like the rock that rafters have to go around as the current carries them downstream. I take time to catch photos of beauty and things I've never seen before and my daughter does too. Before I had to keep them all in my mind but now it's easier because they are on memory cards. Lol. We also hike, go to the BRP a few times a year to see the waterfalls and campout. We have a horse or I should say it has us. Very healing animals indeed. My profession involves climbing and is semi-dangerous, but it allows me to set my own schedule and also keeps me in shape.

I am seeking the best ways to stay healthy in my diet and daily habits. It seems that there is always more to learn from our bodies, nature and other people. Just getting into this all raw diet, although I have eaten mostly fruit and veggies for many years as they fulfill my cravings. I don't have time to correspond with allot of different people but will appreciate any input/encouragement that may help in this transition to a total healthy new lifestyle which I want to acheive. I love making new friends and truely welcome any ideas and suggestions.
