I moved to St. Petersburg in 2021 from northern California mostly because I wanted to live in a warm, humid climate. Shortly after arriving, I started playing pickleball and became hooked. I also lift weights, enjoy taking long walks through neighborhoods, and I particularly like coffee shops. I haven't done swing dancing in years but have thought about trying again. I love dogs but don't have any.

I'm originally from Cincinnati and have family there, so visit a few times a year.

Howdy! :) My name is Jay. My degree and "formal education" (in economics) I now count as nothing. I have a big, newly realized passion for building and creating a community of truly free people. I mean free, like the trees, birds, and all other living things. Free as in not desiring connection with our dying "civilization". Is it civilized, 200+ years of persecution of the first settlers of North America?... Is the endless breaking of treaties not barbaric? How about the stealing of lands? Murder?...

I'm keen on doing better. I'd like to connect with someone else who's confident we can. I am a vegan-ish vegetarian leaning towards raw veganish, but I don't much like labels or to "identify" as "something". I don't fit well into boxes, but the Matrix always seem to like to put people in them. Wanna break some with me?.... I occasionally eat honey and bee pollen (see, there's a broken box right there!). In fact, I LOVE them both. I occasionally also eat raw cheese (maybe twice a year). I think veganism has gone off the deep end, taken a good concept and blown it out of proportion... we are all part of the cycle of life on Earth. Vegan philosophies, for me, are less about health and more being trendy... it's like austerity measures applied to diet. As for me,

I want to integrate more and more completely with the wisdom of Mother Nature and all of her members... I find her mezmerizing! She is the consumate engineer, the consumate artist... she is pure beauty, truth, love. Exactly the things I aspire to be!:) You too?

I have learned to slow down and think about my actions. I am looking for someone with similar depth and who's thought about the meaning behind the things they do. I AM ALSO SEARCHING FOR LIKEMINDED PEOPLE TO GROW A COMMUNITY BASED ON CRUELTY-FREE LIVING, A DEEP CONNECTION WITH NATURE AND NON-TRADITIONAL OR NEW CULTURE! My sexual orientation doesn't fit well in a box either (sigh!)... I got rid of my mask, my ego, and stopped pretending to be satisfied with a "plain vanilla" kind of relationship. A 50% success rate for marriage doesn't suggest it is the right answer for a lot of people, does it? And how many of those marriages that don't end in divorce are really "happy"? I think many people are lying to themselves, and they identify so strongly with the socially acceptable ego-mask they are masquerading in, that they don't really know who they are or what they want! That was me once, but I no longer care about social norms more than what I feel in my own heart.

I value honesty and commitment. I think love is bigger, more beautiful, more gentle, more wild, more honesty, more fascinating than people (most people) plugged into the system can handle. And sex for me is the zenith of spiritual experiences. I love diversity and the uniqueness of the individuals I have met who have had the courage to take off their masks and live free ('cause the truth does set you free!). In no particular order:

I'm vegan, an activist, and social justice supporter. Being behind the scenes or being up front, whether it's leafletting, PPV, VR, protests, vigils. I'm most passionate about suffering and injustice, connecting and working together with those who are like-minded... and hopefully change the hearts and minds of those who are not. Actually not so much as changing their hearts, but helping them reconnect with their own. I'd like to believe that we all started out with a vegan heart.

I stopped eating animals at 9 when I realized what meat actually was, and until about 10 years ago never understood...why me. Or rather, why only me. At that age. Without any outside influence. Why only me, among all the people I knew, my family, my friends, my neighborhood, school, church, why am I the only one who sees what I see, and just stops eating them. No fuss no muss. I don't think of myself as anything special. Or so different from everyone around me. Especially back then. And despite all my efforts trying to get them to see (I am not in any way militant), not one person made even the most miniscule change.

It was about 10 years ago that I went to see Melanie Joy (big fan of) give her original "Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows" presentation and finally, FINALLY, understood why most people eat animals and why it is so hard for them to change. This may not be an exact quote, but something along the lines of

"Perhaps the greatest strength of the movement is that it speaks to core human values. The vast majority of people don’t want to see animals suffer, much less know that they participate in such suffering. In many ways, animal liberation is aligned with the deepest values held by most people, even though they may have not yet made the connection between their values and the rights of animals. Between the meat on their plate and the animal it came from."

I volunteer about 4 times a week packing food for children.

I participate in vegan potlucks, dine outs, picnics, board game nights, sanctuary visitsworkdays, and other fun stuff.

I love dogs, don't have any now but had 2 rescues at any given time 1996-2015. My last 2 were Penny (beagle Jack Russel) she was SUCH a nutball and Scout (lab dobe) she looked exTREMEly fierce yet was SO gentle, except when she felt Penny needed protection from another dog. I LUV standup comedians particularly observational humor, and impressionists like Frank Caliendo, Jay Pharoh, and celebrities who do imitations of other celebrities make me laugh til I can't laugh any more.

Movies: comedy, drama, true stories, romcoms.

TV: The Office, Modern Family, Family Guy, BBC productions like Scott and Bailey, Doc Martin, Death in Paradise, Last Tango in Halifax.

Music: Elvis, Rock, Dance, R&B, Country except the twangy stuff, most genres except jazz, rap, metal.

Just bought an acoustic guitar (March 1st) and am starting to learn thru YouTube.

I would say that I am pretty balanced and well rounded - I'm an academic (biology and anthropology) who can repair or build all kinds of things. I'm also an artist and traveler.
